+1! Great Route suggestion! The Smith River Byway is a treat and McKenzie Pass has some excellent scenery for good photo opportunities. You may even want to consider riding Century Drive once you get to Bend for some mountain and lake photos. Even if you don't ride Century Drive, consider talking someone into giving you a ride up to Sparks Lake so you can hike the Ray Atkeson Memorial Trail and take some photos like this. BTW - There's a small restaurant in the small town of Vida on Hwy 126 before you get to McKenzie Bridge that has real good burgers.

Alternately, Hwy 20 out of Salem isn't too bad if you just want to get over to Bend quickly. There's one narrow section after Detroit Lake, but most of the Hwy has a good shoulder. You could get back to the coast by using B. Carefree's suggestion. If you decide to take Hwy 20 - there are some spots you can get off the Hwy. The quickest route avoiding the hwy when possible might look something like this.
