Front Derailleur unable to shift to large chainring...

Hey y'all - here is my current situation: my front derailleur (Shimano 5700) will not move the chain to the large chainring. The limiting screw is literally almost completely detracted from the derailleur.

A little background:

Just upgraded the bottom bracket on my Nashbar X cyclocross frame from a 108mm Shimano 5700 bb to a 113mm Nashbar ISIS bb. The former was spaced out by about 4mm with the help of two shims on both sides in order to provide adequate clearance for the crank arms - to which I discovered (while replacing it) caused enough stress to begin shredding the threads on the bb - so I'm relieved to see my replacement provides the correct amount of clearance.

Originally rocked a 172.5mm Shimano 105 Hollowtech II crankset with a 48/38 set up, then put a new crank set on, a 170mm Nashbar CR2 compact crankset w/ 50/34 set up, which clears the frame perfectly fine.

I figure these are all the necessary details to pin-pointing my issue, however I feel that the problem is simply that my front derailleur is a road derailleur (Shimano 5700), which cannot compensate for the spacing on the frame, which is more than likely developed for a mountain derailleur, given it's a cyclocross frame.

Or...would the clearance be the same with way? This is where my confusion sets in. Clearly the issue is the type of derailleur I have on the frame as opposed to the bottom bracket or crankset, given the latter two fit perfectly with the frame. It also makes sense that a road derailleur would have an issue on a cyclocross frame built to accommodate mountain components. Should I switch to, say, a Shimano Deore type derailleur? However, I want to make sure there isn't something I'm overlooking.

I'd really appreciate some constructive feedback from anyone with insight on this issue! Thanks, all.
