I think you're looking for 750,755,756,760,765 (XT series) or 570, 580, 585 (LX series), or anything older. Deore 530 and 590 are very similar to these XT and LX rear hubs.

Alex Adventurer are a good value rim for touring.

Your Alivio hub would probably make a good touring wheel too.
XT Rear hubs, I agree.

Newer XT front hubs should be ok too, the reports of newer XT failures were specific to rear hubs.
