The first bike I bought with my own money was a Mongoose hilltopper Sx MTB for a whooping 700$ cad (that was a whole summer's savings some 8-9 years ago). This thing is still with me and that's the one who gets the most milleage. This thing can take the abuse after so many years. Slick tires with decent pressure don't slow you down that much, and I don't mind jumping over the gigantic craters montreal streets have.
It's like a loving partner who will go through the rough times with you, and make the good times even better. *snif
