I have to agree that a century is 100 miles or more ... but congrats on the 96 mile ride.
As for your saddle issues, it does sound like you need to be fitted on your bicycle. That's the first step toward a comfortable ride. Good cycling fitness and a strong core can also help to increase your comfortable saddle options. Then, yes, a good saddle is a good investment.
