I adjust both limit screws for the tightest adjustment which allows for crisp shifts, and no looser, when shifting by pulling the shift wire by hand, as suggested in this procedure: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-...nts-derailleur

I could not tell you what position the pulleys are in as I never look at them while making the adjustments, I adjust for shifting performance only.
