I think there is huge brake/age/ correlation. The majority (85% at a guess) of fixies I see (primarily hipsters and teenagers) locally have no brakes. (my son has gotten over his "this is uncool dad" phase of my requirement that he have front brake on his fixes...especailly after seeiing friends eat it).

I see more brake on fixies that are ridden by those over 30 or so. This is ignoring what my kid calls fauxies......those with coaster brakes.
