I absolutely agree with FB - get some self-education. The fact that you call them tension (rather then limit) screws and think moving them will cause mis-alignment tells me you need more awareness of the derailleur's normal functioning. Parktool.com/blog, Sheldonbrown.com are the best sources, with videos being a good additional source so you can see the process live. I also have some concern about your assembly of the bike shortly before a group ride. It's not a good idea to subject the bike and your assembly skills to a test when you don't have much experience. Installing critical parts such as the bottom bracket, cranks, bars/stem, etc. is not just a matter of bolting things on - proper tightening, alignment, etc. is important.
