Part way through a 100km charity ride a woman noticed that her battery had fallen off somewhere en route leaving her stuck in high gear with about 80km to go. She was very unhappy.
That's no worse or better than breaking the right shifter cable at the end that goes into the shifter. In this case, it was user error for not ensuring the battery was securely fixed to the bike.
