My current set up does not seem to work in friction mode either. Does this make sense. I can only cover 8 gears with the pull range that it has.
The shifter will work across the whole cassette once you have the correct derailleur. The Shadow Plus rear derailleur requires more cable pull than the bar-end shifter supplies.
