When you get back to it. Adjust the outer limit, shifting either by pushing the lever arm directly, or by pulling the wire at the down tube. This will ensure a proper limit adjustment not influenced by the lever click position. Then use the cable to fine tune trim for the most inboard position, that still clears when on the smallest rear sprocket, and allows good upshifts.

Then if all is good, the trim click should buy you enough movement to clear when on the inner half of the cassette.
