Last two weekends getting into TT season in AZ:
TL;DR - Two TT's, two Cat 4 wins.
6/2 - Thunder Road TT - 4th overall - 1st Cat 4 - 35:40 (26.92 mph)
Course was advertised as 16 miles (closer to 15.8) with a 1-2% grade going out. Straight 3-5 mph crosswind the whole way. Legs felt a little blocked (I did my usual easy day 2 days before, and openers the day before), so not sure what happened there. Was about 15 watts below where I expected to be. Still very pleased with the aero gains I've made. A year ago the same wattage would have got me a full mph less.
6/9 - Arizona City Cotton Classic 40K TT - 3rd overall (maybe 4th, haven't seen full results) - 1st Cat 4 - 56:46 (26.27 mph)
This is the AZ state champs course. 60 ft of gain on the way out, nice and flat. Start was 90+ degrees. Outbound felt in control. Started about 5-10 watts under threshold. Slight head/cross on the way out. Towards the turn I could tell I was starting to feel the heat. The inbound leg was pure survival. Ended up about 20 watts under threshold, but the time was faster than I expected for the wattage (probably due to the heat).
Overall I'm happy with the results. There are still 3 more TT's before State in September, which is my main goal for the rest of the year. My other goal is working on how to translate my TT strength into Crit and RR results. A big part of that is just going to be dropping more weight. But I really need to work on shrinking my sphere and being better at picking my moments in races.
