36/46 is a very common ratio for cyclocross bikes, which use the same cranks, shifters and derailleurs as road bikes, for the most part. There should be no problem, unless you have a braze-on or direct mount front gear shift thingy clamp which doesn't allow the said thingy to be lowered sufficiently for the smaller chainring radius.
