If your "training route" is 83-miles, why not just add 17-miles in the middle of it, and do a 100-mile ride?

You'd be on familiar ground if you started to feel poorly, and knowing where you are / what to expect in the coming miles makes it much easier mentally to keep going and do that first 100-miler.
