JoeJeweler, I hope you are keeping in mind that this is the internet, where everyone is an expert and only too willing to give advice for circumstances they may not have anywhere enough information to render an accurate assessment.

If you judge it to be safer to ride on the sidewalk in these circumstances then do what you feel is right. Certainly weigh what others have posted with some consideration- sidewalks do have their own set of inherent dangers especially at intersections but ultimately you should be the judge. It may even be legal to ride on the sidewalk on this road.

Even looking at your pictures I cannot honestly say how I would feel riding on this road. I certainly have gotten on certain roads, judged them to be "unsafe" or at least unfavorable, gotten on the sidewalk for a few blocks and then found an alternative.

Personally, I prefer riding on the road to riding on the sidewalk but I'm willing to admit that I have taken to the sidewalk when it seemed the better alternative.
