However, I became the victim of the newer-bike curse last year. My aftermarket bottom bracket failed during the first 30 minutes of the event. I limped along for more than 50 miles. At one of the rest stops, a mechanic looked at it and told me that it was unrepairable and that I was risking frame damage if I tried to continue. That ended my event. I was the only member of this group to have a terminal mechanical issue.

So be warned, newer bikes might fall under the C&V curse ;-)
