Front and Rear Racks: Clean and Functional
I just recently bought a beautiful 1985 Bridgestone 400, which I am looking to turn into my commuter/rando bike. The Bike is the Red and Silver model. I am envisioning, all polished silver with leather-look bar tape and my "honey" B17.
I am looking for front and rear racks to compliment the style of the bike, to whit:
1. I want the racks to appear somewhat symmetrical, or at least complimentary to one another.
2. The racks should be SILVER (doesn't a black rack on a perfectly beautiful vintage road bike make anyone else cringe?)
3. Cleaner lines are better. Polished/polishable is preferred.
4. I do not have mounting brazeons on the seat-stays or fork. Although I am open to P-clips, I would prefer racks that are designed to be mounted to the brake bars (an aside: are there strength/stability considerations related to this decision?)
Additional info: As with all things, I am on a budget - under $100 would be fantastic. I am open to, and would even prefer, used (recycled) options. I have mostly spoken to aesthetics, but I also need the racks to be functional. I will not likely be "touring" with this bike, but I will be doing brevets/camping, so I need to carry... stuff (and have that stuff remain stable and secure).
I invite all advice directly to my choice of racks, discussion about what I may or may not actually need in terms of racks, and information/offers/leads about used options (by PM is probably best for that last).
Thank you
Everett
