I have ridden Contis, Bontrager, and Kendas on my Cannondale, all 23s. I pump 'em up to a bit more than rated, say 5 pounds or so, and ride. No real problems. Yeah, I've had a couple of flats, but not enough to get excited about. I figure that like most other things, if you don't feel comfortable riding a given brand/type tire, then get what you do feel comfortable about. I would hate to waste my "Zen riding time" worrying about getting a flat! I ride to ride, and enjoy it! (By the way, I have Mavics on the C'dale, and Velo Orange on the DeBo, and both have 36 spokes. No racer boy am I!
I've never had any issues that I felt were related to riding on 23's. I used to be 330 lbs riding on 23's. Maybe someday I'll try out some 25's to see if the ride is a little nicer.
