Be careful what you volunteer for!
I volunteer with a group that serves soup and sandwiches out of a motorhome to street people two evenings per week. We've been doing it for 3 years.
Two years ago the lady that prepares 3, sometimes 4 kinds of home made soup went on holidays for two weeks. I stepped in to make the soup at that time and was able to keep up with the demand for 12 litres of soup, twice a week. Our popularity has grown, and we are now serving 24 litres of soup each evening. We reviewed the logistics for carrying on during her holiday this year, and I'm going to be pushed to the max getting all that soup ready in my regular household kitchen. Barbara, the regular soup lady does it week after week out of her own kitchen with never a complaint, or hint of how much work it is.
I will put my shoulder to the wheel and, with the help of another volunteer, get it done. But I will have the benefit of being able to see the end. There is no end in sight for our regular soup chef.
Hats off to Barbara, a real outstanding volunteer.
To add a little spice to the mix, Wehave to pick up 12 loaves of day old bread twice a week. Two other volunteers make sandwiches to order for our guests as they come to the motorhome.
