We have two similar programs in my community. Once per month, members of the church my wife and I joined 25 years ago (encinitaschurch.com) cook and serve dinner for about 100 homeless people at the Bread of Life in Oceanside. Leftovers then go to the smaller weekly Fill a Belly project in Encinitas. Many hands make light work, so we have it a lot easier than you do!

Back on the subject of bicycling, my other missions at the church are leading a weekly secular/religious discussion forum, repairing/rebuilding bicycles once per year for the Community Resource Center, and annually setting up a 2-week rotational homeless shelter. One of my friends claims that my "Extreme Makeover -- Bicycle Edition" does not count as community service work, because the guys and gals who make it happen have way too much fun doing it.
