is it possible to have an 8 speed shifter working with 5700 105 FD ,RD and an 8 speed cassette?

I do not have money to buy the shifters yet and just wondering if I can install the 105 FD and RD. Will there be any performance upgrade or you need the shifters for that? Not just the derailleurs?
