New Bottecchia projectL '89 Chromor/Athena

I picked up this rather rough-looking bike recently at a price too good to pass up. It looks to be an '89 Chromor/Athena. It does vary slightly from the Catalog photo in that it has a chrome fork and Chorus calipers. There might be other non-Athena parts, but this is my first experience with Campagnolo so I'm only able to identify the most obvious stuff.

I finally got around to disassembling everything tonight. Everything except that awkward stem appears to be original and in fair condition. There was still plenty of grease on every bolt (save for the seatpost, strangely) and everything came apart with no issues.

My plan is to bring it back as close to original as possible. I'll probably end up with a clean-esque bike that has a touch of patina. There are spots of surface rust on some of the chrome and the paint is chipping off, revealing chrome beneath in a number of places.

First, I'll see how good I can get the chrome. I typically use the lemon juice & aluminum foil method, but some of this stuff looks beyond saving--any tips would be appreciated.

After the chrome is cleaned up, I'll wash and wax the paint. My plan is to use some kind of clear laquer to stop the chips from spreading, but any tips in this area would be appreciated as well (Recommend a laquer? Clear nail polish?).
