I looked at and almost went with the Trek Verve series but then decided against the suspension, i then looked at the Giant Cypress but ultimately opted for the Cannondale Quick 5...i am very happy with my purchase... rides and performes good... Have you thought about just changing the forks and tires? I was told and believe the suspension takes away from the power becuse of inertia... Something like that... I test rode both and walked away with a demo QUick 5....I ordered me some Diadora shoes and pedals and will put a steering stem extender on it...CHeck with your local shop to see ho much to modify it a bit...
