Are you sure the spacing is different? I bought a pair of seven speed Shimano bar end shifters and I think the instructions indicated they could be used for six speed drs with some sort of limiter. This was a number of years ago so I mightbe wrong. Maybe if you limit the motion of the dr with the limit screw, you can't shift into the non existent seventh gear. Does that make sense?
