Bridgestone MB5 in Red Worth Pursuing as a touring and commuting bike? Worth it?

I found a near new shape thumby shifter Bridgestone MB-5 MTB.

It is red. Is is very clean. Rides nice. I found the bars way too aggressive.

I am hoping to create a sitting position like my old Hard Rock Specialized Bike.

Would it be better to just get a Hard Rock or Stump Jumper? Will the head tube make it hard to change this one out to near equal sitting angles? It is hard to tell with the low bars if it is a simple change of stem and bars to create a Hard Rock - Like geometry. (I am speaking highly of my 92 Hard Rock from the past because it was comfortable for me, should not have sold it before moving). Oh well!

I wanted to add some Wald swept bars for commuting, or try out some Nashbar Trekking bars on it that I ordered, change out the stem. Touring would be my greatest interest, but if I could make it a comfy around towner.. that is great too.

It is not super inexpensive, $135. But Deore LX Thumb Shifters shift precisely enough, everything appears to be as new except the tires. I think these were middle of the road bikes from their time.
Regardless, I would need to likely add a beefier rear wheel, order a stem, rear rack, a few other items to make it touring/comfy riding ready.
