I have used the Berthoud stainless steel fenders w/ 27" and 700c wheels on the same bike. It was a chrome, P-15 Schwinn Paramount. It was very shiny. Both wheelsets were fine as I was using larger tires on the 700c wheelset, 32mm IIRC. I found the stainless steel fenders were pretty easy to work with and held up really well to a couple of years of commuting.
Do you remember if they were the 40's or 50's. Been reading some conflicting information about max. tire size for the 40's
