I say get the 40mm Berthouds and call it done. FWIW, the worst pair of fenders I have ever installed were the VO stainless. I have installed, Berthoud's, Honjos, SKS, Blumels, Schwinn Approved Walds, etc. and the VO's gave me the most trouble. They were very difficult to get a good fender line, and the front slapped against the front tire when going over bumps/rough roads. I now avoid all VO fenders. I was scarred!
