Thanks, The serial number (#KF0405) and image are now in the Database! Taking this up to the Blue Ridge Parkway this week, have yet to ride it so this will be a trial by fire. I am taking another bike as well. BTW, Looking at the serial number key on the database this bike appears to be a pre 1985, manufactured in June and was the 405th one built. It says "Japan" on it and "Handcrafted by Kawamura" on the left chain stay.
Trust me, this one is definitely 1987. Those decals were unique to that year and Spint didn't come out until 1986. Besides you've misread the serial number decryption. F doesn't designate June but 1986. I don't know why the prefix is K as opposed to W. They definitely started using W in 1985. However, we have come up with a couple other cases of K-codes in 1986. It could just be a simple employee error.
