Lot of bikes (most actually) using that "lousy design"

Potential drawbacks of replaceable derailleur hangers include:

1) Greater potential for damage to hanger, since it has to be designed to fail before the frame (although repair is admittedly easy).

2) Possibly poorer shift quality (Many industry folks believe this, but you'll not find any definitive data one way or the other).

Whether a frame included a replaceable hanger or not wouldn't even enter into my purchasing decision, except possibly on a mountain bike frame.
