The bike trails are as flat as you usually get with former railroad grade trails. But, there are some pretty intense hills in the driftless area if you start biking the road network. Just thought I would mention it in case you have different bikes with different gearing and are unsure what to bring.

I forgot to mention the map, but Madtown Bob did. Madison has a nice city map showing all streets and it is pretty good for showing which are good for biking and the bike paths. You should try to obtain that map early in your visit.
