I agree with this. Personally, I never wear anything from any professional team in any sport (bar a Red Sox hat on occassion), so I wouldn't wear a pro kit myself. However, the blanket "never wear a pro kit unless you're on the team" 'rule' is silly. Vintage pro kits are cool regardless.
On the other hand, I have to say I'd never wear yellow (or pink for that matter). It's not so much because of the "you didn't earn it" rule, it's more that it's so blatantly and unsubtley newbie. It's the only symbol of cycling that non-cyclists get, which makes it desperately uncool among cyclists. Like Primal Wear stuff, it's just straight up Fred. Something more obscure like a Belgian National Champion jersey is much cooler.
