Everyone is a little different but if you're consuming 400-500 calories an hour you're at the high end of the spectrum. If I did thatiI'd be barfing in the bushes in a very short time. During RAAM I'm between 300-350max. It is a fine balance between getting the most calories without causing gastric distress. Having erred on both sides I'd rather err on too few as it takes less time to recover.
The comments about the mental aspects was aimed at Richards comment. I probably should have made a separate post but I was being lazy.
