i have a co-worker who grew up on Mackinac Island. They had a primary school, but had to board out for high school. In the winter, islanders put their Christmas trees on the Lake Huron ice to mark a trail to the mainland town of St. Ignace. That way, if there was a blizzard while they were traveling to or from the island, they wouldn't lose their way. I would love to ride my bike on that ice trail!
