Everyone is a little different but if you're consuming 400-500 calories an hour you're at the high end of the spectrum. If I did thatiI'd be barfing in the bushes in a very short time. During RAAM I'm between 300-350max. It is a fine balance between getting the most calories without causing gastric distress. Having erred on both sides I'd rather err on too few as it takes less time to recover.
300-350 per hr is about the max for me if I'm using solid food instead of Ensure for calories. I feel fine doing so, but it slows me down considerably. I can only do 400+ when I go all liquid.
