Tom, Views of lead batteries depends on who you are talking to. There are some good things that can be said about them just as there are many bad things that can be said about them. To start with they are very heavy for the energy delivered. If not properly cared for they can be very short lived. For the most part those are the bad things. The good thing about them is they are inexpensive to replace (you just pop out the 2 old batteries from the pack and install 2 new one about $70ish). Secondly they are simple and safe to charge. BTW, if maintained properly many people have reported riding many .. many months and miles with them. My wife has been using the same battery for several years now. But I had surgery in Jan. and didn't keep it charged so I'm guessing it maybe shot now. I also remember a young lady on this site saying she rode the bike to and from school daily and logged many hundreds of miles and never had a problem with the battery or bike in general. I know someone in Cal. That has logged thousands of miles on the same pack.

Keep in mind if you peddle the bike with the motor you will get 8 to 10 miles or more on a charge. If you don't peddle it will drop to around 5 miles. When I ride with my wife we do 10 to 15 miles. When I ride alone I do 30+ miles (but not with lead bats).

If you decide on buying EZip bikes I would recommend a few simple checks before riding that may avoid a few problems. So let us know if you make the jump.
