First significant ride of the season today!

22.89 miles, we won't discuss the speed (there wasn't any), made major saddle improvements, and I found that my saddle is my limit, not my legs or endurance, at least at that distance with that ride profile.

We (Mrs. Road Fan and I) started out going toward Dexter on the old Huron River Drive route. About a third of the way I was getitng very frustrated at my butt pain (brand new B17 Select, set up by the book but now in fine tuning), we decided to head back since we had been dinking along for an hour already. As we got back to town she said, you go home and I'll go around the Plymouth loop. Diplomatically I replied, "Ok, dear, but let me see how I feel then." Amazingly I felt like proceeding, so we added another 14 miles onto our ride, for a total of 22.89. A few more minor tweaks to the saddle and it is starting to feel better. I'm not sure if the remaining pain was due to still-poor positioning or pain remaining from the chafing received in the first third of the ride. We'll find out tomorrow. I'm hoping that on Sunday we can do the nearly 40 mile Ann Arbor to Chelsea round trip. If so, we are ready for a 39+ route at One Helluva Ride 7/13.

I also found that my climbing is surprisingly good for so early in the season. HR seems to dislike going over 155, but that could be due to yoga all winter, combined with my new frame. It builds strength and coordination, but not aerobics. You go anaerobic on some tough positions and sequences, like fast sun salutes and long-sustained Warrior poses, but it's not an endurance activity.

A good start to the season - several good accomplishments and discoveries!
