Ron, There maybe three different 287 levers. My T bike is spec'd with CODA cantis and 287T levers. My brakes are Shimano Alivio and the levers, while they look like 287s, they don't have the provision for the extra brake cable the 287T has. I have seen catalog to real world deviations from Cannondale in the past so I don't think just the cantis were replaced, but of course they may've been. The third lever designation is the 287V which is for linear pull brakes. Possible that the 287 and 287V are the same as I do have a lot of lever travel when braking. FWIW Cannondale wasn't using linear pull brakes through '95.

If you aren't concerned with originality the Tektro brakes and levers seem really good. Anyway I measured my Shimano stradle cable at 80 mm C-C and I think there is usually a letter code, mine don't have one.
