Because my diet hasn't changed much, and really my riding distance hasn't increased in the last month, having dropped more weight recently, I believe you may have identified the root cause...improvement in fitness aka ability to ride faster ties into heart rate or even stroke volume of the heart. I am riding faster with less effort without a doubt.
