Frame stiffness vs wheel stiffness: Seven Ti frame on Campy Zonda wheels
So I have this Seven titanium frame with Campy Zonda 2-way fit wheels since last year. The frame is as perfect as can be, or so I think. The overall ride quality is truly perfect - stiff but shock absorbing, and I can really feel the liveliness of the Ti.
But when I really hammer on it standing or doing a sprint, I feel this springy action. Normally when I cruise sitting down I enjoy the springy action because it absorbs road noise. However during the sprints or standing, I feel this loss of energy transfer. I don't know if this is only imagined, because metals like steel and titanium are supposed to cyclically return energy pumped into them.
Moreover the Seven frame is custom, with stiffness rating 8 out of 10. So it's built to be really "stiff". Could the wheels be "less stiff"?
Does anyone have similar or dissimilar experiences using Campy Zonda 2-way fit wheels on titanium/carbon/other frames? Has anyone changed out wheelsets so you have a comparison?
Thanks!
