I have two bikes that I ride and I purchased both new. A 1985 Fuji Regis and 1994 Trek Antelope 830 mountain bike. Both work well for me. I have done lots of work to the Fuji since I rediscovered bicycles about a year ago. I had been riding on and off for many years. The Fuji has a kinder 14-34t freewheel as well and new tires, brakes, saddle, cables as well as some other stuff. It rides better than ever and the Trek is still a blast on the trail riding that I do here in Penny Pack Park here in Philadephia. Having said all that I have rented newer bikes while on vacation and I have been looking to buy. I just can't seen to pull the trigger, because I am not sure I think it is worth it. I keep looking at different new bikes. Right now I have my eye on the Specialized hardrock a 29er and Trek makes one called a cross-rip or rip cross or something like that which I also like. I am thinking of getting both but this would relegate my old faithful bikes to garage status. Kind of sad. The Trek works great on the trails but I like the idea of the disc brakes and the big tires on the 29er. The shifting on any bike would be better than the Fuji as well as better choices in things like tires for upgrades to the bike. I will keep kicking tires for the time being and see if I do not eventually cave in to a new one.
