From Downtown LA would you not be looking at the LART and not SGRT, that takes you directly to LB but from their you can get to Seal Beach quite easy.
If you go to LB find Broadway go east make a right on Alamitos Ave. male a left on 1st make a left on Eculid Ave. right on 2nd St. go over the canal right on Marina Dr. follow it around to N. Mariana Dr. over the SGRT your in Seal Beach right on PCH to Main St. you can get to Main St. other ways (small streets) but this is easiest.
Good Luck and enjoy. We are heading out to Seal Beach Sunday with a few guys that have never been out from were we are starting from so nice slow pace this day.
Myself I don't think I'd travel down that from LA solo just me I guess other may fill its ok.
To me south of the 91 fwy is ok north can be a little risky but doable.
