SGRT terminates at Seal Beach but it starts way up by Azusa... not really local for you. it's not clear from your post if you plan on driving to your take-off point or not.
If you really want to start down town, the LA River Ride might be a good route to emulate - here's a link I found (this isn't me but it looks about right)

Thanks for the info. I am able to drive to my start point but I'd prefer not to.
I'm thinking SGRT is my best bet. It's actually not too far from my office in Monterey Park and will allow me to make it in one shot
(I'm new to road cycling and still getting used to riding on roads with crazy LA drivers).
I'm just hoping I won't get mugged in some of the rougher areas. I'll be riding solo Saturday morning.
