An Excited (and unfit) Newb!
Alright so I am 26 ~200 lbs , 5'9 male who has not done a single athletic thing since 12, unless beer olympics in college count as "athletic activity". It has the word olympics... don't judge.
As an early birthday present I received a Hybrid Schwinn OR2 (that best that Target can buy :-P). I hadn't been on a bike since I was young and so for the first week it sat in the garage because even tho there's some saying about never forgetting how to ride a bike... I was sure I had forgotten.
Then I tried it and I am proud to admit I am pathetic.
1.2 miles the first day and I hurt! I also didn't know how to shift at all and ignored all the "ride in a parking lot to figure it out" advice I've read.
Next day was 2.7, then after that I hit 4.5 miles. Each day I got a bit better so I went home and ordered a rear red flashy light, and a front headlight. I sometimes work 12 hour days and would miss day riding, and I'm trying to be less then a lump of mush so work can't be an excuse. I wan't to hit the streets every day.
Yesterday for my first night ride I went on a real road, not just residential streets, to a local train station and back. Cars gave me wide birth for the most part. The weather was cooler. 6.2 miles. I fell once on a hill towards the end of the run. IT WAS AWESOME!!!
So I know these miles are really low but I am excited I am improving and pushing myself more and more each day (and wake up feeling fine - not shot). Had to no-one to express my joy too .... so here i am!
