The evil looks I get in the elevator sometime I am worried we will loose that privilege. There are unsecured racks outside of the building, but I would not trust my bike there.

Honestly I think it is the same bike haters in the elevator as the road, but in all my rides up and down the elevator, there never was an instance where someone couldn't fit in.
