My friend called me and asked if I wanted an old Rocky Mountain that seemed fine save for the lack of a saddle and seatpost... swapped the tyres and made a few changes to the chainrings and the rear cassette so that the XT short cage derailleur would play nice. Am pretty sure I have an XT long cage from this period so I can restore the crank to it's 24/36/48 if I decided I want lower gears on a bike that seems ideally suited for some very fast XC riding.

The Stratos is a little rocket... it is probably from '88 - '89 by virtue of the threaded 1.125 stem and cantis and was 26 pounds on the shop scale.

I hear that Frank the Welder was giving lessons at Rocky Mountain when this bike was built and the welds do look exceptional.
