Sugar is a powerful drug and when brain activity is tracked it lights it up like a Christmas tree and because it is a short lived high, you want to get high again. Too many foods that don't need sugar seem to have sugar added to them and even if you can't taste it, your body knows when it has got some.
Wheat has properties similar to opiates in how it affects the brain and as such, can be be very addictive.
The human animal is a slave to those drives and although we can use logic, reason, and restraint... most people don't but I won't blame the addicts.
Food companies know what foods do to our brains and how to make us crave more... you want repeat customers.
One thing I have noticed since I have gone low carb is that I don't crave sweets... I do however have a steak craving about once a week and can't go a day with nuts and more specifically almonds as they also have some beneficial health effects to reduce stress and inflammation which is a chronic issue I have because of a back injury.
Really... you've been reading too much tabloid science. Wheat with similar properties to opiates? Come on now. If you are going to make these outlandish claims, at least post a link to the research which shows what the chemical is that is opiate-like and the
mechanism that causes an opiate-like reaction.
