Carbon is not at all "a metal".
In chemistry, in fact, it is known as a "nonmetal".
Carbon in race bikes is basically a type of plastic aka "carbon fiber reinforced polymer".
I often refer to my full carbon bike as my "plastic bike" as a sort of joke to my 3,5 year old kid when he rides his plastic bike
