There will never be a test for ribonucleotide reductase. A normal human being has an astonishingly well-documented range for component levels, excess reductase (i.e. unusable) is immediately broken down into a complicated series of metabolites for which exist no (as of yet) economically-viable blood or urine-testing and have tremendously short lifespans.
Of all the hot shots here, I'm sure there's some sort of animal or plant geneticist who could comment on the incredible efficacy of using ribonucleotide reductase enzymatic therapy to insure performance gains. It's basically super anabolic steroids, except it's your body producing the components for protein synthesis and repair. It's why a man with arms a 14 year old girl would put to shame can kick his way up to the top of a mountain faster than anyone in the world.
Finally, who are we kidding? Did you see the no-name winner of the Tour of Turkey being positive for EPO today? If some middling racer has to rely on the sugar to compete against the non-doped middling Arab teams like Torku Seker Spor, Al Sekh Sport, and a bunch of crap Continental teams, then what does it take to win the real Tour de France? This sport is dead. Everyone is just a professional, more aware version of Tom Simpson now. I could care less about how hard these guys train. Thankfully I only watch the coverage on pirated feeds.
I love how Brailsford is playing mind games now. "You provide us with a solution to prove to the world that we aren't doping." Okay, "Sir" Dave, you kingly-ass knight of a jellied eel of a man, how about establishing a baseline that 7 watts/kg is impossible, and using the reasoning "Well, these boys climb volcanoes in Tenerife every day, there's bound to be performance gains" certainly doesn't hold water.
