There are two popular places where kit-wearing riders go to ride and both places are 7 miles away from the Central Business District separated by miles of neighborhoods. I never see anyone wearing a racing kit, or even bike shorts, within that 7 mile circle leading to Downtown. I rarely see anyone wearing regular street clothes at those two "training grounds". Even women riding Townies wear kits out there. It's like some club uniform driven by peer pressure I guess.

There is one park about 4 miles from Downtown where roadies and others wearing a kit might venture on weekends but I never see any of them riding on any route that would take them Downtown, and I ride those routes every weekday.

I think you would get called "Lance" a lot in New Orleans if you ventured to work wearing a kit. People just never see that here. Not even in a coffee shop, bakery, or any public place outside of the parks.
