Partly true. Infrastructure is way better now than it was just five years ago, so I assume smooth surfaces will attract "roadies" to commuting. The other thing, New Orleans is TINY. From the swamp to the city center is 20 miles max from any direction. Six months a year it is too hot for most to get in the habit of commuting. The other six - too dark. Most of our utilitarian cycling community live within a four mile radius of the city center. Hence...no need for special clothing.

How many other riders did you see on a daily basis wearing any "racing" bicycle clothing? 1 in 1,000? 1 in 10,000? Just wondering if you were seeing more kits that I do. A cyclist in a kit on my commuter routes would certainly generate a memory - sort of like a colorful unicorn.
